Standing Committee Announces Schedule of Televised Hearings

IQALUIT, Nunavut (April 20, 2017) – The Legislative Assembly’s Standing Committee on

Public Accounts, Independent Officers and Other Entities today announced the schedule for its upcoming televised hearings on the most recent reports to the Legislative Assembly by the Auditor General of Canada and the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Nunavut.

The Auditor General’s appearance before the standing committee begins at 1:30pm on Monday, May 8, 2017. The Information and Privacy Commissioner’s appearance before the standing committee begins at 1:30pm on Wednesday, May 10, 2017. The Information and Privacy Commissioner’s Report on the Privacy Audit of the Qikiqtani General Hospital can be downloaded from the following location: http://www.assembly.nu.ca/tabled-documents.

“Both reports contain a number of important observations and recommendations concerning our territory’s health care system,” said Committee Chairperson Pat Angnakak, MLA for Iqaluit-Niaqunnguu. “Our committee’s televised hearings will provide an opportunity for witnesses from a number of Government of Nunavut departments to address the issues raised in these reports and to account for their progress in responding to their recommendations.”

The standing committee’s hearings will take place in the Chamber of the Legislative Assembly and will be open for the public to observe. The hearings will be televised on local community cable stations and direct-to-home satellite service on the Bell (channel 513) and Shaw (channel 289 – classic / channel 489 – new lineup) networks.
